I was delighted by the fact that we were able to sing ALL of the Christmas repertoire last Monday night. It is wonderful to be at that level and still have a few weeks of rehearsal to go. This weekend we have the chance to focus on the "problem spots..." as we identified them last Monday night. I am hoping that we can "fix" all of these so that our remaining rehearsals together can be spent practicing performance.
What does that mean? Singing the right notes with the right words at the right time is only part of what happens in an excellent performance. All of that is truly important, of course. But we'll do our very best when we can anticipate the sequence of events in this concert - and the kind of energy (physical & emotional) that it will take to pull it all together. Despite the seemingly unified "theme" of this repertoire, the musical styles involved are rather varied. We only get one chance to "turn the page" and present our audience with our best singing of each piece. Familiarity and true mastery are good things! These are now our focus.
THIS SATURDAY, 9 to 11 - in the usual place. See you there. -g
